to his relationship with Julia, feeling that he can absolutely be happy for once in his life. Winston and Julia's relationship grow to a point that they finally rent a room so that they both can meet on a more regular basis.
             Later in the novel, Winston and Julia are invited to O'Brien's quarters for a meeting. It is there that O'Brien tells the two of them that he too wants to revolt against the inner party (the government), and gains the trust of both Winston and Julia by having them join the 'Brotherhood'. It is from there that O'Brien asks Winston to read a subversive book that is supposedly written by Emmanuel Goldstein, who is a scapegoat of the government. Winston reads parts of two chapters from this book, and after feels even more that there is still 'hope' for himself. Winston and Julia go back to their rented room, and are then arrested by the thought police and are imprisoned at the Ministry of Love. Julia virtually vanishes from the story, and the rest
