Love, hatred, and revenge all play a part of this play's love triangle. These three reasons
all led up to the cause of the tense relationship of John Proctor, Elizabeth Proctor, and Abigail
Williams. The three characters had dense relationships with each other. John is married too
Elizabeth who commits adultery with Abigail. Abigail was working for the Proctor's until
Elizabeth discovers the relationship and fires Abigail.
John is the good man in town. Father of three young boys and husband to the most
honest women in town. John realizes his love for Elizabeth after Abigail charges her of
witchcraft to get John for herself. Elizabeth always was a good wife to John. John says "I mean
to please you, Elizabeth". What he means is he will do what ever it takes to keep Elizabeth
happy knowing that he has made a major mistake. Also, John talks to Abigail who tries to win
John back. John gets mad and with the mean voice calls her a "Child". John even though does
not want to bring out his mistake with Abigail, but announces it at court to save the good name
Elizabeth mother to three young boys and wife to the hard working man John. She is
loyal to her husband and always there for him. She discovers that Abigail has charged her for
witchcraft to get to her husband, so she goes to jail of bogus charges. John told the court that
Elizabeth has never said a lie. But when brought under questioning she commits a lie that she
fired Abigail not of adultery, this she does to save the good name of her husband John. She tells
John, "I never thought of you to be only a good man John". She has only know him to do good
and knows he has done nothing wrong. So John saves her for now and asked to plead with her
husband ready to be hanged she states, "He has his goodness now God, forbid I take it from him.
