Angela's cousins come and visit one day, and they can see how bad it is in the house. They write a letter to Angela's parents, and ask if the family can come and live in Ireland. Angela's mother sends money to them, and the McCourts take the ship back to Ireland.
The McCourts come back to Ireland from the USA. First they move to live with Malachy's parents. But In their house there are other relatives living with them already.
So they just live there for a short period of time and then head south for Limerick, where Angela's family live. In Dublin Frankie's father Malcahy claims that the IRA owes him money, but they won't give him any. He tells the people in the IRA about his fight for Irish freedom, but they say that they do not have any papers with his name on it. After they have been visiting the IRA headquarters, Malachy shows his son Frankie a statue of Cuchulain. And then they take off for Limerick.
Their grandmother meets them at the station in Limerick. And they move in at her place to live there for a while. But she does not like the boys' behaviour and their lack of knowledge about religion in general.
Their father Malachy has problems getting a job, and they have to go to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which is a charity organization, to get furniture, clothes and other stuff they are in need of. One of the twins, Oliver, gets sick, and after a while he dies and they take him to the graveyard.
Frankie and his brother Malachy (named after his father) start on a school called Leamy's National School. The boys in the school are teasing them all the time and calling them yanks. Frankie gets into several fistfights.
The other twin, Eugene, is always asking about Oliver because he cannot understand what death really means and that Oliver is really gone for ever. Only six months ...
