Nappy Hair

             The story of Nappy Hair began at a family back yard picnics in Washington, D.C. At every picnic family members of Brenda's lovely family tells some of their favorite stories. In a unique and vibrant picture book that uses the African-American call-and-response tradition. Its about a family talking back and forth about adorable Brenda's hair--it's the nappiest, the curliest, the twistiest hair in the whole family. They never seen hair like this before they wanted to know why did God blesses her with this head full of nappy hair. Soulful, funny, full of rhythm, and bursting with family pride, Nappy Hair is accessible to people of all ages.
             I chose this book to read as a positive reinforcement about the various concepts of beauty. The beauty that is within and outside of your body. This story connects to the classroom by one person telling the story while the audience is responding to the story. Little kids love listen to stories that deal with everyday life because it's easier for them to remember. It can help ESOL students by listen to the situation and rhythm patterns of words that are being used. Help them understand the story from their point of view. Getting their response about how they feel about the story that they have just listened to. The outcome to this story is that Brenda was not ashamed of her nappy her and how other people looked at her. She was very proud of herself for who she was
