Romeo & Juliet : Lovers over the decades

             Perhaps one of William Shakespeare¡¯s most memorable plays would have to be, ¡°Romeo & Juliet¡±. The congratulatory success that he received was tremendous, and so many of his works were made into movies. His play Romeo & Juliet was re-created in 1997, starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Claire Danes as the young star crossed lovers. A lot of William Shakespeare¡¯s play dealt with the same plot line, but with many twists and turns along the way.
             The older version of the movie as well as the newer version has many things in common. For starters, the names of the characters remained unchanged, the portrayal of the characters was also the same. Romeo and Juliet¡¯s first meeting took place in front of a fish tank in both versions. Another similarity in both plays was the response of the audience, and the fact that both families still immensely hated one another.
             Both plays alike released intriguing atmosphere¡¯s, they each took unusual turns that left the audience wanting more. Both movies started off in the same way, but the similarities ended there. In the older version, the actor¡¯s dressed in old-fashioned clothing, and they spoke with the vocabulary of old-English. Their manner was more cordial and they rarely showed affection for one another in public. ¡°Love¡± was considered to be a foolish thing, it was believed that the elders of the family would ultimately choose the suitor to whom their children would be married to. The character of Juliet was played by Olivia Hussey; She was portrayed as a ¡°shy, quite girl¡± in front of her parents, in reality Juliet was quite the ¡°chatterbox¡±. Juliet¡¯s best friend was her nanny, she stood through think and thin. The older version of Romeo & Juliet was an entertaining movie, but there were many things that most people couldn¡¯t comprehend.
