Machiavelli

             In the essay, "Qualities of a prince" (35-40). Machiavelli discusses some of the characteristics that would cause a prince to be praised or blamed for his actions. He explains how a prince needs to have his priorities in order to be knowledgeable when necessary to withstand his position. A prince should know how to adjust to the many different personalities he may encounter. Being good all the time won't overcome the evil of others. Like a man, a prince will never be totally composed of all the good qualities, but he must be able to escape from the evil that would cause him destruction of his position. Being a leader, such as a prince, requires certain qualities to be successful.
             I strongly agree with Machiavelli, on the qualities that would be beneficial to a prince. How a prince should act is very important to his people. A leader of any kind has to build a relationship with his or her people to maintain his position. He has to take interest in what is going on in the people lives. Keeping his word is also a way of gaining respect and praise from the people. I also believe that there will be circumstance where promises will be broken, but you don't want to make it a habit of deceit. Alexander V1 was one of many who highly believed in deceiving people. He was proud to confirm his promises to people and always succeeded at doing it. If you gain the reputation of being dishonest then it can be hard to maintain success.
             Secondly, a prince needs to be merciful and not cruel with his people. It is also important for a prince to know when not to misuse his mercy. Sometimes when people see too much of kindness or mercy they tend to not take a person serious and then the problem is not rectified .So, therefore you have to be able to drew the line between the two.
