When one thinks of the big names in the sciences, Sigmund Freud and Albert Einstein are among those that we regard as the greatest minds of their time. It's an interesting exchange when two such geniuses comment on issues that are of great importance to society, and often their words ring truer than we may realize at the time. Such correspondence once took place between Freud and Einstein on the subject of War, and what they had to say was quite insightful. In one letter to Freud, Einstein wrote, "People must have an innate lust for hatred and destruction." Freud agreed adding that, "war was biologically sound because of the love hate instinct of man and that pacifism was an idiosyncrasy" which Einstein had related to our of culture's degree development. If one were to examine how our culture has developed since their era, one would see a steady progression in our violent tendencies. Violence is everywhere in today's society, especially in our media. It is almost impossible to avoid, whether you see it on the News, in the movies, or in your favorite video game, violence is prevalent in our society. Our children see violence on the big screen and think its okay because their favorite actor is doing it, and it looks cool so why can't they do it? Watching MTV's "Jackass" makes everyday kids try something so dumb and crazy, that one wrong move and they could end up in the hospital or even worse, dead. Yet, because Johnny Knoxville is walking away after each stupid stunt, why cant the kid who is doing the same stunt walk away unharmed. Truth is not every kid walks away unharmed from just mimicking things they have seen on TV. But it doesn't stop there, it is generally accepted that violence is everywhere in the programs we watch and the games we play, but where does the violence come from? That it is the underlying question that we should be asking ourselves as a society....
