             THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION
            
             The Shawshank Redemption begins with a sentencing trial. Andy (biblical for Andrew) is given two life sentences for the murder of his wife and her lover. He is sentenced to Shawshank Prison. When the bus arrives with the new prisoners all the inmates bet, in prison currency of cigarettes, on who would break down first. Red thought that Andy would be the first, he was disappointed and intrigued with Andy's stability. During processing the inmates are introduced to the Warden and he gives the rules to the facility. The Warden likes speaking about God's judgement, in the prison the Warden represents the devil. The Warden is talking to the new prisoners and he makes a comment that, "You are convicted felons, that's why they sent you to me"(good goes to Jesus Christ and evil goes to the devil). He then goes on to say, "Trust in the lord, but your ass belongs to me". The trust is represented by the soul and the ass is represented by the body.
             The Warden has appointed guards to protect the facility. The guards that are under the Warden are represented as the devils demons. The devil knows the bible as well as Jesus, he uses it against you by twisting the words. The Warden tells the prisoners that in his house (the prison) you will not use the Lords name in vain. The devil can not use the words Jesus Christ or God, "darkness can not exist with the presence of light". Later during the first night one of the new prisoners starts to cry out loud after the prisoners start heckling and making him scared. He is taken out of his cell and nearly beaten to death by the lead guard Hadley. Later we learn the prisoner did die. Red at the breakfast table makes a comment stating Andy costed him ten cigarettes, since he never made a sound the first night.
