             The setting takes place in modern time in a large city.

             Thomas Fairbairn is a member of a gang, and his nickname is Baby. Casey Willardson is a school-girl and she ends up tutoring Thomas.
             3. Give a brief summary of the book's plot.
             Thomas Fairbairn belongs to a gang where he is known as 'Baby'. This is not your typical clan, because it doesn't believe in drugs or violence. It's a group of people who don't go to school, and the elder members of the group teach the younger ones. They teach everything from car mechanics, to Latin, to cooking. All of the members have great respect for each other, and accept each other.
             Thomas wants more than just the acceptance of his gang; he wants more out of life. He decides to 'break rank' and take a knowledge test at his local school. He does very well on the test, and he is put into an honors class. The principle asks a girl that is doing very well in the honors class to tutor Thomas. Casey Willardson helps Thomas catch up on the work that he has missed from the begging of the year. As they work together, they learn to understand each other, and share many views on life. They end up falling in love, but Casey's, and Thomas' friends have a problem with that. In the end there is a showdown between the gang, and the varsity football team.
             4. What important problem or conflict does the main character experience?
             Thomas and Casey both have to undergo peer pressure from their friends. Casey's friends don't want her to have anything to do with the outsiders from the gang. Thomas' friends don't want him to go to school, or date any school-girl. I think that both sides should be more open to Thomas' and Casey's decisions.
