             In today's uncertain economy, getting a degree in Pharmacy provides a university student interested in biology with many opportunities. Students can work in a variety of fields including Pharmaceutical Sales, Researches, and Education. A pharmacy degree requires at least six years study. Salaries for pharmacists range between forty-five and hundred thousand dollars a year. Pharmacists can work in "chain" drug stores, hospitals, clinics, or pharmaceutical factories. They can also go back to school and specialize in a particular area. A pharmacist plays a major role in the patient-physician-pharmacist relationship where all concerned work for the health and well being of the patient.
             In order to become a licensed pharmacist, one must successfully complete a six-year pharmacy program at an accredited university. More than forty states in the U S offer a pharmacy program. Pharmacists also have to complete a structured internship and pass the National Pharmacy Exam and a state law exam (www.accessscience.com). Pharmacists are given a M.D. degree when they complete the requirements listed above. For many years before 1960, the pharmacy students spent only four years in college in basic science, mathematics, general, and professional areas. But after 1960, the educational program was extended by one year, and lately it has been extended by two years. Two years of pre-pharmacy can be taken in a general college, which consists of biology, chemistry, calculus, statistics, English, and social sciences classes. After two years pre-pharmacy, one must attend a school of pharmacy and take courses such as the principles of pharmacology, biochemistry, pharmacy law and ethics, and pharmaceutical care.
