In the business world, there are many factors to be considered when trying to market a new product. There are production costs, consumer demands, and profit margins associated with marketing. An example of an ethical issue associated with marketing would be having a product that is in high demand but too expensive for consumers to afford.
In the "Analyzing Ethical Issues in Marketing" simulation there were a series of different ethical issues associated with marketing a leather coat. One of the issues involved was the cost of the leather coat. The consumers for the name brand Shout were fairly young and some would not be able to afford the more expensive model of the coat. Shout decided to design an expensive and inexpensive replica of the coat. The company would be making a profit because some people would still want to purchase the more expensive coat because it would be made with better quality. That would make a win-win situation for the company from an ethical and profit standpoint.
When making ethical decisions, if the decision is carefully thought out, it can produce a win-win situation for the company as well as the consumer. There can be some trade-offs made when making ethical decisions; it can result in lower profits if a product is priced very low for the consumer. This can hurt a company's production and profit margins. Vulgarity can be a component of personal perception. Vulgarity can depend on the context in which a statement is made, the tone it was made, and it can depend on the culture of the person that heard the statement. For example, the hip-hop culture has its own language and if someone not of that culture heard a statement it can be taken in a different context than which it was intended.
