Affermative Action

             The idea of Affirmative Action was originally meant to correct discrimination rooted in slavery and segregation. To achieve the idea of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., to be judged on character not skin color. Sorely, it has further divided the nation's racial groups. For that, and many other reasons, Affirmative Action should be abolished. Recently the Supreme Court agreed to decide whether Affirmative Action programs in the nation's universities should continue to help minorities, or whether they represent "reverse discrimination"
             According to Affirmative Action people should be grouped according to race, and sex. Yet this is a lose-lose situation, which results in reverse discrimination. The majority feels deceived for not acquiring what they deserved. While the minorities feel that they have been stepped on by being accepted to a school simply because of their race, and not on their achievements. 78% of companies and colleges have quotas specifying the number of each different ethnic groups they must employ or admit. If you were in the hospital after a wreck, would you want someone with a lesser education who's only there because of the color of their skin operating on you?
             When one applies to the University of Michigan, he or she is graded on a simple 150 point system. People with higher points are accepted. If you were a Caucasian at the top of your class, had a 36 on your ACT, a 1200 on your SAT, and an outstanding easy, you would be awarded 16 points; 12 for your test scores, 3 for your class rank, and 1 for your essay. While an uneducated black man would automatically receive 20 points, just for the color or his skin. How would you feel if you were then rejected while an African American Hispanic that might not be as qualified, got in simply because of their ethnicity.
