Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare, uses such tragic themes such as pride, death, pain, and loss. It is pride of the Montague and Capulet's family which leads to the death of Romeo and Juliet. It is the inability to put aside their differences even for true love which brings this wonderful love story to an end.
Pride is expressed by a high opinion of one's own worth or possessions. From the first scene to the last, pride in family motivates the action of Romeo and Juliet. The beginning scene brings a strike of reality as two servants of the Capulet's yells taunting phrases that have repeatedly disrupted the peace. Mercucio and Tybalt did a fierce fight ending in the death of Mercucio. Romeo appears and kills Tybalt, to bring justice to his best friends murder. The death of Romeo and Juliet show's that both lovers put aside their families quarrel and for true love took their lives.
Servants and Peasants not knowing the depth of their pride spread rumors and gossip throughout Verona. These lies split the city into two groups. In the first scene Gregory and Sampson yell feigned words such as raping and killing even women of the Montague's clan. Then later on servants of the Montague come and call for weapons to show their dignity for each of the families. They were willing to fight for each of the clan's not even knowing why. From these small brawls they advanced to the death of true love itself.
Romeo and Juliet did not intend to die, but in the end they found it best if their love was everlasting and that could not go on living between the false dignity of their families. Romeo discovers his love for Juliet and realizes all the feuds he has had against her family was useless and meaningless. At the same time Juliet is being forced into a marriage to Count Paris.
