The career of demolition is defined by the destruction of structures to create room for new developments. Demolition requires degrees and specialization in many areas, such as Engineering, Computer Literacy, Construction Management and ability to work well with budgets. Demolition also requires specialization in safety more then most areas in construction. This is because Demolition is one of the most unsafe jobs.
Before you can begin as a demolition worker you must first have graduated from high school and gone through an Apprenticeship of 3,600 hours or approximately 2 years. The major jobs done by Demolition Specialists are structural demolition of buildings, interior gutting of offices, equipment dismantling and salvage and hazardous materials remediation. Work can involve a range of skills, from manual activities to use of small tools and specialized equipment to operation of heavy construction machines.
The Career Outlook for Demolition is not that of a great one. A person involved in demolition can go through major risks everyday. Also when doing the demolition for major buildings deadly explosives are used and therefore the labor worker can be seriously injured or possibly killed if they are not one hundred percent safe on the job.
Demolition pays very well because of its high risk nature. However the pay can fluctuate greatly due to the level of destruction or the demand for it. And as the project to be destructed grows larger the salary does also. In conclusion demolition although very dangerous can be a very providing job and in the long run a very rewarding career.
