Some houses are sometimes built on stilts over the seas. It may seem difficult to understand how these houses stay up as long as they do, but a house on stilts can sometimes last for about 20 or 30 years without having to replace the posts.
Houses built on stilts have to be thought out carefully. Building a house that will last you a long time means you have to choose the right timber that will be used for the posts, sometimes the type of tree they use is very important, they have to use type of a tree that suits the sea. If this is not thought out carefully then they will probably have to replace the posts quite often, maybe about every five years or so.
A house on stilts may look simple but it requires a lot of work, first the person has to pick out the type of timber they will use then they have to cut down the trees for the posts. Then they have to measure, the height from the ground to the floor of the houses are mostly about 10 to 12 feet or 3.5 to 4.oo meters. This allows the for the water level at high tide and strong winds to pass through the stilts of the house without causing severe damage to it. Once all of this is done then the hard labor begins.
It takes about 20 men to erect stand up one post. Even before that the end of the post which will go down in the ground is sharpened to allow it to go in easily. Then they tie a rope around the post, standing it up straight they position it into the place where it go, using the ropes they start pulling in and out until the post is about a meter or (3 foot) or so deep into the ground. The same thing is done to the next post until all the posts are up. A successful build also depends on having all of the right material for it.
Learning about houses on stilts has been very interesting, especially since I never thought about it before now I guess everything has a reason behind it. The purpose of a house on stilts for me is so that t
