Aids

AID'S stands for aquired immuno-deficiency syndrome. AID'S is a clinical
condition in which the body repeatedly subdues itself to infections because of a
weakened immune system. AID'S is caused by the human immunodeficiency
virus (HIV). So far, it appears that all individuals who contact HIV will eventually
develop AID'S, a uniformly fatal disease. There are medications that slow the
course of the disease, but no definite cure has yet been developed. Alot of
people think that the answer to the problom lies in an effective vaccine, but
scientists have not yet been able to make such a vaccine.
HIV is an unusual virus in that it attacks the very cells in the immune
system whose normal role would be to kill the virus. At present day, it is only
possible to contract HIV by exposure to either blood, unprotected sex with
infected partners, or needle sharing, these are the most commom forms of HIV
transmission. In November 30, 1999 it was announced that the Food and Drug
Adminstration (FDA) has approved twice daily dosing of viracept (nelfinavir
mesylayte) for the treatment of HIV infection. Before it used to be three times a
day dose at 750mg and know it was changed to a twice daily dose to 1250mg.
Records have shown that people are much more gratified that that the FDA
apporved the twice daily dose because it is more simpler and more convenient
dosing schedule. Researchers say that they need to find a vaccine for HIV, and
and affordable one. Scientists have also learned a lot in recent years about the
molecular-level interactions between HIV and the receptor cells in the body,
which provide the virus with its foothold for entering the cells. Hopefully now that
we are in the new millenium scientists will finally find a cure for the Human
