Exports and Imports of Mats

             The target markets are largely muslim countries because most of the mats sold are sold as 'namaz mats' and carry mats for 'haj' pilgrims. Muslim families prefer to sit down on the floor and eat and hence the mats come in handy.
             Management Team : A total of 5 people head the export division of the company. These people belonged to the company itself and have not been specially recruited for exports. 2 people out of these 5 are for 'marketing'. They have very few agents and have been constantly reducing the number of agents. The reason for the same is that the final importers have become more confident in dealing with them directly and hence they are able to save on the commissions paid.
             The overall export sales for the year 00-01 was Rs. 17,81,12,242 as comparted to the current year - 38,36,72,920 and they would like to grow at a minimum pace of 20%. The company did not reveal wther it was making any money in exports but said that they were "surviving". There were no extimates for the capital oultlay on the export business. However, the same is expected to increase substantially with rising importance of exports.
             DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN MARKET EXPERIENCE
             Supreme has been in the local markets for about 50 years. In the domestic markets they sell everything form plastic furniture to dashboards for companies like Ford India and HM. They have earned a good name and goodwill and charge a premium not only in India but in a few other countries as well.
             They buy their raw material from i.e. Poly Propylene mainly from Reliance Petrochemicals and sometimes they also import it from Saudi Arabia.
