In order to be prepared, you must know how to conduct business and how not to, so you don't end up making a mistake that can cost you or your company.              German companies thrive on massive written communication and use meetings primarily as the avenue for clarifying and elaborating on the written guidelines. They directly express their ideas in both written and oral form. Germans dress more conservatively than Americans and it is helpful for visitors to look and act accordingly. Sitting at ease but upright, wearing clothes that are fashionable but not distracting are all techniques that can help enrich the communication process and relationship (Nejmantowicz, 2002).
             German employees tend to keep doors closed to provide boundaries and minimize interruptions (Kenna, 1994). Their personal space is slightly greater than Americans. Because their privacy is so important, German society has not been very mobile in the past and many are not used to dealing with strangers.
             Germans tend to dislike touching but do use direct eye contact. They have a strong sense of privacy and do not like questions about family, personal life, etc. Germans are very serious people. It is better off to avoid personal relationships in business and best to stick to business topics. When Germans are explaining something they find it necessary to have a proper foundation and historical context.
