             While technology is increasing, our brain power is decreasing. Since the advances in technology, S.A.T. scores have decreased steadily for 14 straight years. After listening to Daniel Greenburg's speech my eyes opened and I realized that with advances in technology people rarely have to do things for themselves, which has caused "mind slump."
             We don't realize how much technology is making our minds useless. All the skill and work has been taken out of driving thanks to the automatic transmission. Now a days rarely will you see a person go through the process of cooking a home cooked meal, instead people use "convenience foods" which take no skill or thinking. Convenience store clerks can't even calculate change without the help of modern cash registers. Computers are now equipped with spell check because people are too lazy to look up words in the dictionary.
             Even at school where people's minds are supposed to be a work, there is still modern technology to do work. Students use calculators to calculate math equations. Calculators take all the challenge and work out of math. A recent study shows students spend more time watching TV than classroom instruction. The average student watches TV more than 6 hours a day. Over the course of a child's education he or she will watch over 12, 960 hours of TV. People argue that before TV young people would listen to the radio and collect comic books. But the radio makes you visualize and imagine and comic books make you read and learn the trade of acquisition. TV does absolutely nothing for the brain.
             To all the young students coming through the high school I urge you to get involved in activities that will keep your mind busy and at work. Rather than spend endless hours watching TV you should read a book. Play sports and exercise daily because just as stupidity is increasing so is obesity.
