A possible future for humanity in a cruel, unjust world was presented in the novel The Chrysalids writtin by John Wyndham. In this future world there is a society called Waknuk, and it should be condemned. It should be condemned because the people that it consists of are arrogant, narrow-minded, and Paranoid.
             This society should be condemned because it produces arrogance. The people of this society, which sprung up from the aftermath of what appears to have been a large scaled nuclear war, believe that they are the the true image of God. They believe that every person that does not fit the exact, supposed definition of what a man should look like is ungodly; thus, being the spawn of the Devil. This, being as it may, has caused these people, in thinking that they are the divine image, to think that they are divine, and to speak and act for God. This society should be condemned for a society of which arrogance is such a large contributer,will only lead to unhappiness and hardship.
             This society should also be condemned because the people are narrow-minded. They will not listen to logic or reasoning. They believe what the church tells them, and they do what the government tells them without ever asking themselves is there something else out there? or is there another way?. For example, the church told the people that there was nothing beyond the Badlands, and the people believed them. Even when a ship which had travelled beyond the Badlands, found other cultures, and returned with new spices as proof, people turned their backs from the truth. Due to this narrow-mindedness, this society should be condemned for this small seed could grow to collapse the entire society if a discovery were to reveal the lack of logic and reasoning behind a strong belief beyond a doubt.
             The society of Waknuk should be condemned because of its paranoia. That is their paranoia of "Satan's doings". To emphasize this paranoia is their burning...
