hy dear father love"
This would have made Hamlet feel obliged to do the necessary and defend his father's honour. This is another theme in the play hamlet.
Hamlet is quick to reply "Haste me to know't ... sweep to my revenge.
The reasons why Hamlet is out to sort revenge are, Claudius has married his mother after killing his father.
"He has killed my king and whored my mother" This is a very emotive line. It emphasises the whole reason why Hamlet wants to take revenge, it deepens our sympathy for him and makes us empathise with him. This line creates suspense to the audience, it creates curiosity on to what happens next.
The ghost revealed to Hamlet, and to the audience that it was Claudius who killed him. This comes as a surprise to the audience, because they never knew what happened to Hamlets father therefore this revelation is most surprising to the audience.
"The serpent that did sting thy father's life now wears his crown."
Claudius is obviously the serpent because he wears the crown, and he is king. The audience and Hamlet are now aware of what has to be done.
