I remember talking to a group of friends that were involved with me in organising a Christian singles outing with the venue being a nightclub. The issue of whether to allow the club to sell alcoholic beverages came up. Some of the committee members felt it wasn't right to do so because they believe the Bible does not encourage the consumption of such beverages. Some other members in the committee felt there was no problem with drinking alcohol. One particular member said she drinks it once in a while, and another member also supported the consumption of it.
             I read a piece of writing titled "Is it wrong to drink alcohol?" The writer said that the Bible does not condemn the moderate use of alcohol, but clearly condemns drunkenness. He or she quoted Ephesians 5:18 which says "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit". He also mentioned that Jesus Himself drank wine and even turned water to wine (Matthew 11:19; John 2). One thing fascinated me from the above quoted scripture. That scripture is so simple and so clear that it self explained itself. The emphasis in that scripture was on not drinking too much of alcohol. I clearly see his point and the direction of his argument.
