When I schedule, I like to do it in two to three week periods, so it doesn't become to be too much and so that I have enough time to properly to whatever I have to do. To satisfy this habit, I plan to sit down each week, pull out my syllabi and write a schedule for my homework, papers, projects, study time, and group time. Each time I sit down, I will update my schedule or delete whatever has been done. I believe this will help me tremendously.
First things are those things you find most worth doing according to your personal vision of your mission. We use these priorities to manage our time and events so that every day we are sure to keep these first things first in our lives. Covey has created calls a "Time Management Matrix" which is a 2x2 matrix with things in our lives that are Urgent, and Not urgent on the top, and Important and Not important on the left side. Here is a brief summary of each quadrant.
Quadrant I: Urgent and important. This quadrant includes those items that represent true crises such as your mother having a stroke and you need to bring her to the hospital, or writing a paper that has a deadline that can not be moved and is a large part of your grade.
Quadrant II: Not urgent but important. This quadrant includes items that are truly important in our lives like relationships, relaxation, etc. Unfortunately, since they are not urgent we tend not to do them and we procrastinate because they are not urgent.
