Only 1.3% of youths involved in this particular study were considered 'intensive'; that is, had at least three index offences in the past year and three or more experiences with cocaine in the same period of time. These groups committed a large portion of crime and were much more involved with drugs. Only 3% of the youths that took part in the study were considered 'high-risk'; that is, had at least one index offence in the past year and used pills. This group was also disproportionately involved in criminal activity: 85-90% of the youths taking part in this study committed no crime or only committed minor offences and used drugs infrequently.
According to Dembo and Williams (1991) the use of marijuana, hashish and cocaine is not significantly related to crime. However, alcohol use is significantly related to crime (particularly crime against another person).
