             We, as the American people, are immersed in the images and representations of American popular culture. The lifestyles of celebrities and those in the public eye enamor the general public to an extent that we'll sit in front of our television sets after dinner to catch a glimpse of life in the "big show". It is becoming a pastime that we keep up with the tabloids at the grocery store, the talk shows on the radio on the way to work and back home, and a steady diet of Entertainment Tonight before we go to bed. However interesting the lives of the rich and the famous may be, middle class Americans should understand how far fetched and irregular the typical life of a celebrity is. The extravagance, the over-indulgence, the silver spoons, all wrapped up in controversy, is what is enticing because of its volatile nature. As our world rapidly advances in technology, we are brought closer to these images. This means we are exposed to a broader spectrum, which typically leads to greater subjectivity and to be more blunt, it leads to less credibility. The media is the major provider of what we see, and so they have great power in providing what they want us to see. They can manipulate a story to the farthest stretch of feasibility to attract viewers. With this understanding, we, the American public, should be judicious in our acceptance of the images and representations of popular culture that we are exposed to on a daily basis in order to preserve our morals and values. In preserving our morals and values, we gain a greater appreciation of our lives knowing we held steadfast to what is right and that our posterity will do the same and the cycle will continue.
             Our great country was settled by people who wanted to escape a world that infringed on their beliefs and forced them into a life of conformity. America was established as a sovereign land where freedoms were endless and liberty was protected. Much has changed...
