My Life in the Great Depression

             This television is impossible to turn on, all these buttons on this remote N.A.S.A must've made this thing. I just got used to turning this V.C.R on thanks to my grandson. But now he's telling me about this D.V.D contraption. I didn't think watching "I Love Lucy" would be so difficult. I remember the good old days when all u had to turn on the radio for some good entertainment. Damn I guess its true when they say " time flies by." It sure does, I remember growing up during the Great Depression. There were no such things as Metrocards, the internet or even Pizza Hut.
             My Vito father came to America from Italia in 1907 for the same reasons every other foreigner traveled to the states, to try and make a better living for himself. My father was in the army, my mother a housewife and then there was my brother Jim and I. Jim was a scrawny little fellow and one of his legs were shorter than the other, my parents used to call him Teddy after the president. I used to be jealous about it because I wasn't given a nick name after a great leader but years later I realized they gave it to him because the president also had that leg problem Jim had. They called it polio. I grew up in a small tenement in Brooklyn, we were able to eat our dinner, brush our teeth, and go to bed in the same room. It didn't seem so small back then but damn have times changed since. During the period father was in the army, he lost his leg in the war. After he came back from Austria things got rough. We were strapped for cash and so were most of the other families that lived near us. We used to eat the same food everyday, a glass of milk, a bowl of peas and some bread. I used to try and help out around the house as much as I can Me and my brother even worked with my father. Since he lost his leg in the war there wasn't much he could do but our dirt bag landlord O'Connor gave him a job rolling cigars....
