Many companies want to gather as much data from their customers that they can, but customers are Leary to give out any data because of all of the identity theft risk, so customers will then lie. They will give information that is close to their real information but not the truth to protect themselves. Then this information is processed as correct data and sent to other data companies creating inaccurate data that companies will think is accurate. This process will go on and on until the data is so skewed that it will be worthless and will end up having thousands of "Bob Smith's" in the world with the same 123 Main St. address.
             One industry that the article mentioned is the credit industry. With credit being the lifeline for the amenities in life this information needs to be accurate. For example, if a person is applying for a first mortgage, the credit report is pulled right away to evaluate the consumer's credit rating and debt ratio. Once this is done, the lender can then determine what rate to offer, what amount to loan to the person, etc. Once this process is completed the consumer purchases a house a couple weeks later and then closes on the house 2 months after the original credit has been pulled. In the meantime the purchaser of the house could then go out and apply for multiple credit cards, purchase furniture and any other prevalent items that would help them make their home complete. These items will never show up on the original credit report for obvious reasons, but what if there was a problem with the loan and credit must be pulled again.
