movements to the objectives. Immediately our basic and advanced skills are
put to the test and we complete the task like experienced professionals. I
learned the true meaning of teamwork and the importance of team building
exercises prior to catastrophic experiences.
After we bandaged our wounded and shifted our backpack loads, we
moved for our objectives and ultimate goal. As we toted our injured and
their equipment, we developed alternative strategies to fill our security voids
in our previous action plan. This taught us the importance of multi-skills,
versatility, and alternative action plans. Leaders developed within our teams
and alternate action plans were implemented. The ability to experience the
importance of team work to accomplish a goal is a lesson one will never
The Graduation Ceremony was a sense of accomplishment and time
we all would like to save in a bottle. With this joy came an ending
to an era for our seventy five man platoon. The time had come for us to
separate and move in different directions and forward to our ultimate goals.
Now with the seeds of our Basic Airborne Infantryman skills planted, we
could continue to develop them over the next few years of our initial
enlistments. From this experience, I learned numerous people from
different cultures and backgrounds can be trained and guided to achieve a
common goal. Additionally, I learned the importance of mission planning,
morale, physical conditioning, personal hygiene, and financial preparedness.
The next stop of my Military Career was Fort Bragg, North Carolina,
home of the Army's elite 82nd Airborne Division. With this assignment
came an endless review of previous skills and situational learning
