Violence in Art & Media Does Not Affects Youth

             What is the main problem parents want to deal with when it comes to their kids and the media? Of course, it's pretty obvious that every parent has the same thing on their mind. How can I make sure that my kids aren't being corrupted by what they interact with when dealing with the media? This means TV, movies, radio, books, and videogames. The problem is that parents think that all kids will be greatly affected from the violence that they come in contact with when watching an action movie or playing a gore-filled videogame. This misconception is shared between many parents all over the US. Fortunately for us, this is completely untrue.
             It is true that there have been countless studies that have shown greater chance of children being affected by violence in the media. What does that really mean? There are hardly any cases of children committing mass murders or using moves they acquire in lets say - a Grand Theft Auto video game to reek havoc on society. Kids today can see the difference between real life and what occurs in the fantasy world.
             Statistics show that kids spend an average of 5 hours and 29 minutes using media every day. The average American will see 200,000 violent acts on TV by the time they reach the age of 18. If in all this time, they are subjected to so much violence and the majority doesn't commit any crimes that can be related to this violent media. Then why would the American public argue that violence should be regulated for the media, or even extinguished!
             The truth is, American parents are trying to make up for the lack of interest and care they had shown for their children. It can be argued just as easily that for that small number of kids who do commit those crimes - the fault may lay with their parents. Why do I say this? Well another fun little fact that we have found was that parents spend 38.5 minutes a WEEK in significant conversation with their kids. Is that normal...
