Reading

             Will and Grace is a comedy that is probably one of my favorite TV. Shows that is not a reality series. I know it is a comedy by the dialogue between the characters and their actions. There are two main characters, Will and Grace, and two sub characters, Jack and Karen of almost equal importance.
             I believe that Will and Jack represent two totally different people of the gay community. The way the writers portray them to the masses are non-threatening, lovable characters. Although both are lovable characters, Will is portrayed as a more conformed "acceptable" homosexual male to the straight public. He does not really retain any of the stereotypical preconceived notions that many people may have of a homosexual male. Jack on the other hand, is a more "flamboyant" character if you will. He does seem to posses some traits that mainstream America may identify with homosexual men. For instance, Jack's movements and tone of voice are not as masculine as Will's, and Jack's frequent references to sex seem to dominate his dialogue.
             Grace and Karen on the other hand represent two straight females with totally different points of view on life and love in general. Grace is the average girl next-door, educated, and rather attractive. Karen is a more cynical character that seems to identify more with this group of friends than her own motley family.
             The writers are careful to not make any of these characters too offensive to the masses. All four characters represent four different aspects of the human experience. All have redeemable qualities about them such as their strong love and support of one another, even though the show is fraught with sarcasm. If you were to take away or change one of the characters, I think the show would fail. With Will, you have a sound minded individual that is good looking, smart and funny.
