Gibberelic Acid is one of a number of related plant hormones known collectively as Gibberelins.(fly) They have a similar effect to that of auxins which were the first plant hormones discovered(plant). The two hormones support cell division and elongation. The main distinction between auxins and gibberellins is that gibberellins in no way inhibit growth, despite it's genotype, being tall or short, the more gibberellin the more lateral growth.(bio)
             Another term for gibberellic acid is GA-3 because it is the third isomer in a series of gibberlins (fly). GA-3 is considered an extremely strong hormone. Its natural occurrence in plants is used as a growth regulator that sometimes causes a series of different reactions, which includes the stimulation of seed germination in some experiments. This kind of acid was first founded as a metabolic byproduct of the fungus Gibberella Fujikuroi, which when dealing with rice, causes the stem of growing rice to become so large so fast that the plant will collapse.(crfg)
             Artificial types of gibberellic acid are made available to the public by growing the Gibberella fujikuroi fungus cultures in vats, then by taking out the GA-3 and purifying it. When the seeds are presoaked in the gibberellic acid it will most likely make the seed go through rapid germination in many different types of highly dormant seeds(crfg). These highly dormant seeds usually need cold treatments, or prolonged pretreatments, after ripening or ageing. Dormancy can also be overcome with the use of gibberillic acid, as in the case of tubers or rhizomes which are found in the Southern hemisphere.(fly)
