War on Gender

             "Bill", a voice said fearfully, "Turn on your television; a plane has crashed into The World Trade Center."
             All the students in my high school anatomy class glanced up to see who it was. Mr. Crockett, a biology teacher on his conference hour, had come into the room to tell us the news.
             "What channel?" asked Mr. Dunbar, our teacher.
             "43", responded Mr. Crockett.
             Our second block class watched in horror as the Trade Center stood smoking. I started getting tears in my eyes. I gasped, "Oh my gosh." Just as I said that the second plane smashed into the second tower. Shrieks from some students filled the air.
             "I am in total disbelief", uttered Mr. Dunbar, "Does anyone know someone who's in New York right now?"
             "No, no, no", we all replied. "Shhh, the news is on!" someone shouted.
             "We have received confirmation that a second plane has crashed into the second tower of the World Trade Center."
             Little did I know the voice of Peter Jennings, the news anchor, would be forever imprinted my brain. For the rest of the class period most everyone was silent except for the occasional, "Oh my gosh" or "I can't believe this is happening." Feelings of fear and sadness poured over the room.
             BRRRING! The bell sounded as the unforgettable second block came to an end. Kids flowed into the hall, yet Novi High School had never felt so empty. Friends were running up to each other asking if they had heard about the tragic event. As I walked to my third block psychology class I witnessed people with tear-filled eyes hugging and saying, "This can't be true." My teacher, Mr. Emerson, watched the television shaking his head.
             "How could someone be so cruel"?
             "I have no idea", I responded.
             "So many innocent people died; this is so terrible."
