The first of Paul's letters in the Bible, 1 Thessalonians, was written by Paul (from Corinth) for the church in Thessalonica. The first part of the letter gives gratitude for the newfound faithfulness for the Thessalonians, who were idols that turned to God. The second part (4-5) deals mainly with Paul urging them to continue to live their holy lives with full faith in Christ's second coming. He assures them that if they continue their holy lives, those who die with full faith in Christ will be rise again upon Christ's return. Paul ends the letter by instructing them to watch for the Day of the Lord, which will come suddenly and unexpectedly, but only to those who refrain from evil.
             In second of Paul's letters, 1 Corinthians, Paul confronts many emerging issues within the congregation. Throughout the letter, he urges them to come together instead of continuing their discordant behavior. Many of the people of the congregation formed factions fueled by their own arrogance. Paul claims that the meaning of the cross goes beyond world intelligence. He then goes on to confront issues of sexual morality, divorce and marriage. He explains that the body is "God's Temple", and that we should glorify God in our bodies. Furthermore, he goes on to explain parts of the communion process (11:17-34), and shows how the Lord's supper has created divisions in the congregation. Paul tells the Corinthians to examine themselves before indulging. Paul ends by explaining the resurrection of the dead, and that when Christ returns the dead will live again and death itself will end.
             2 Corinthians is Paul's compilation of several parts of different letters, each with varying tones, sent to the congregation at Corinth.
