Subjective Piece: Edmund's Journal (King Lear)

             The pictures of Edgar have already been pinned on all the walls of this land. Even into the wild have I sent people to seek the legitimate son. Father wants him captured alive, nay! I shall not let it happen, for a living tongue will spill the words of verity and condemn the carefully designed plan by the greatest schemer. I shall have him slain, and present his cold body to my father --- then with my feigned tears rolling down from my masked eyes, this old man will believe my words once again, even if a poorly constructed tale is spoken.
             People have doubts. Of course they do. Because their legitimate Edgar hath been denied, wherefore the illegitimate Edmund hath replaced Edgar as the heir to the Earl of the Gloucester. They once admired Edgar not for his kindness or good nature, but for his status of being the rightful son. And now they fear him for his treachery and villainy. Only I know of his innocence, yet I shall never reveal any truth. Poor and miserable Edgar, shall I not feel sorry for thee?
             I grow, I prosper! What is Order of Nature! What is the rule of illegitimate son being lower than legitimate son! What is the law of the rightful heir! Have I not proven them all wrong? Ay indeed. Edmund, bastard son of Gloucester will be the Earl of Gloucester. Edgar, rightful son of Gloucester will be the guiltless villain falling into his doom! How fair and legal is life!
             I grow, I prosper! Nine years was I sent out from the castle, with no attention received just because of my bastard birth. Why was it so? Have I no soul, no virtue, no intelligence or valour? Why was I denied and avoided by my own father? Why was I not having any familial love? Ha, now here I am, full of wickedness and intelligence, ordered by Nature to have Edgar's land. --- No, at least half of it should have been mine at the beginning. But dear legitimate Edgar, thou hav'st already enjoyed a wonderful life, stealing everyone's care fro
