Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story

             The plays Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story have many similarities and differences. The play Romeo and Juliet is about two lovers that were never meant to be. These lovers were Romeo and Juliet. Although they loved each other dearly, obstacles prevented them from having any type of relationship. This storyline is also the base of the play West Side Story. Altogether, these two plays were interesting in many ways.
             Romeo and Juliet and Tony and Maria both meet at a dance. Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight at the Capulet Ball. This also happens in the play West Side Story. Tony and Maria gaze eyes at the community dance and find true love. However, Romeo and Juliet and Tony and Maria both were from different families or gangs. Having any type of relationship between these two groups was not allowed at all. The Capulets and Montagues absolutely hate each other. Therefore, both of them secretly tried to have a relationship without anyone knowing in their groups. Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story both have gangs or groups that are against each other. In "Romeo and Juliet," the two groups are the Capulets and the Montagues. Both of the groups have no clue why they are fighting. They just know that something happened in the past that made them hate each other. West Side Story consists of the Sharks and the Jets. These two gangs consist of two different races: Puerto Rican (Sharks) and Polish (Jets). The only reason why both of the gang's fight is because of their different races. If you think about it, they really have absolutely no reason to fight. The differences stick out in these two plays too. In "Romeo and Juliet," both Romeo and Juliet die. Romeo realizes that Juliet is dead and decides to take his own life to meet her in heaven. However, Juliet wasn't really dead and notices that Romeo killed himself so she kills herself with her dagger. Whereas in West Side Story, Tony is the only one that dies. Maria was still ali...
