Review Hard Candy

Hard Candy, directed by Jamie Daugherty, was a somewhat impressive performance. After reading the play and then viewing it during a fourth period one act, I was impressed by their performance. I would consider this play a success, taking into consideration a low budget and a "rookie" cast. What I was thinking of as I read through the script was portrayed well by the cast. Some parts of the play I would say the acting was a bit over the top, however, overall this was a respectable performance.
This play highlighted the corruption of the corporate world as the years go by. The company started out with a respectable college graduate, when a new position needed to be filled, he hired a man based on the fact they were both in the same fraternity. As the years went on the position was basically handed out to any one who could intimidate or impress the interviewer. This play demonstrated the corruption of major corporations.
The set was an average office and waiting area. The waiting area had a place for the secretary and a couple chairs for those waiting. The door was in the middle of the stage dividing the lobby and the office. The office was equipt with a desk for the interviewer and a place for the applicant to sit. The costumes of all the actors fit the personality of the character they were playing. The strict army man was wearing fatigues, the respected man was wearing a suit. All of the costumes said a lot about each specific character.
