Last Game
To be given the chance to play varsity baseball was one of the greatest times of my life. I played baseball for four years, and my junior and senior year I made the all-state team. My best friend, Pat, and I played every regular season game and both all-state teams together. The final game of our season was unforgettable. It had been 4 years of great enjoyment with my best friend, Pat Bovee. We always clowned around in practice by joking around with other players but when the game would start we had a high intensity, because playing baseball with the school was very important to us. Pat would pitch, and I would play catcher. When he wasn't pitching, he would play first base.
Our baseball team had made it to the championship of our state tournament. Before our team took the field our coach Jerry Toubl gave us a talk. He said, "Well men, we've came a long way. Today's the day we've all practiced so hard for, but I want to have fun with it. Lets treat this like every other game we have won. You're all winners, win or lose. So lets go out and play this game as hard as you can." As I ran on to that field I recalled all the practicing I had done, and I knew I owed most of it to my father. He started me throwing and hitting when I was about six-years-old. As my passion grew more and more I wanted to go practice all the time.
The championship game was held at Stevens Point, Wisconsin at Bukolt Park on the 24th of July 2002. We made it this far because our record for the season was 36-4. The game was between the Wauwatosa East Red Raiders and the Brookfield East Spartans.
Pat was pitching a three hitter and I was playing well too, I was 2-4, hitting two doubles and two groundouts. The score kept going back and forth.
