nd he was moved from his beloved Moscow, to Odessa. Therefore, the secure life was taken away from him. As a result, this highly sensitive boy retreated into the world of make-believe and fairy tales. These fairy tales (read to him by his aunt) inspired him again, at a young age he tried to paint what he imagined in his head, but the power of his mind went far beyond his ability to present them visually, however, in later life they would prove to have a great effect on his move away from conventional European ideas.
             On the same track as fairy tales, Kandinsky was fascinated with Russian peasant culture. The colourful decorative houses, furniture, the locals costumes seemed to him to resemble a painting. Kandinsky, while at university, went on several research trips where he picked up an impression of Russian culture and the dual belief system that exists in certain provinces of Russia.
             He saw these experiences as sources of his artistic motivation. As we can see in Colourful life 1907, Kandinsky shows us his interest in Russian Folk law, but the figures (although figurative) look more like a group of colours moving aimlessly through the landscape. The free arrangement of figures, the surface texture and light stokes of colour (which are not concerned with representing form) indicate Kandinsky's desire to move towards abstraction, even at this early stage.
             When Kandinsky past his final university exams, it was clear that a career in the Academic world was there for the taking. He was faced with a difficult choice as his love of art remained very strong. According to Kandinsky there were two events that confirmed that art was the way forward.
