Fertility drugs and vitro fertilization increase the chances of multiple births. Multiple pregnancies raise the threat of premature birth and infant mortality. This is becoming a growing health crisis, especially in the united states, which has the highest rate of multiples. Also, triplets, quadruplets, and quintuplets have a 12 times higher risk of death in the first year as opposed to single births.
             The most important thing learned during this assignment was how the different charts are used in providing medical information. In many instances the charts provided an easier way of gaining information quickly. However it isn't an easy task to find all of these types of charts about one type of information.
             The beginning of the presentation has a pictograph of the location of the ART clinics in the United States and Puerto Rico, 1999. This information listed the number of live-birth deliveries resulting from ART cycles and the number of live births carried out in 1999. The information was taking from 1999 because this is the most recent updated information at this time.
             The next part of the presentation describes the type of ART procedures used in the United States. They are:
             IVF-which is in vitro fertilization, and involves extracting the eggs from a female and fertilizing the eggs in the laboratory and transferring them back into the woman.
             GIFT-which is gamete intrafallopian transfer, and this involves using a laparoscope to guide unfertilized eggs and sperm into the woman's fallopian tubes using small incisions in her abdomen.
             ZIFT-which involves fertilizing a woman's eggs in the lab and then using the laparoscope to guide these eggs into her fallopian tubes.
