Should Teenagers Work?

             Work is part of a person's life. People work in order to support themselves, their families and to be able to enjoy their life, like go on vacation or buy something useful. Teenagers, like any adults need to have money to enjoy their lives, or even help to support their families. Teenagers now are a big, and usually cheap force of labor, which are working between 15-30 hours per week. Many researchers say that work affects students' education and social life. However, work teaches teens to be more responsible, and they learn "general employability skills" which are useful for the future jobs. Teenagers should continue working during their high school years, because they are being prepared to survive in the real adult world.
             By working teenagers learn the value of money. In the article "Why Fast-Food Joints Don't Serve Up Good Jobs For Kids" by Amitai Etzioni, he says, "That teenagers buy useless objects that they don't need". However, when teens buy this stuff they don't think its useless, one of the reasons why they buy this, is because it's commercialized. So if you want to stop teens from buying useless stuff tell the merchandisers to stop making it. Also teenagers are big consumers by spending their money they help our economy. There are also many teenagers who help support their families or save money in order to go to college. Like Shelley Staaats in the article "Part-time Work Ethic: Should Teens Go For It?" she tells that "she saves about $200 a month for college, works to support her-self, and pay for car, clothes, and stuff, like going out." Teenagers, by having their own income don't have to depend on anyone; they don't have to bug their parents any time they want to buy new shoes or something.
