Cloning

The majority of people, in American society, are scared of the idea of cloning, and would ban it all together. Movies and television have given them a false perception of what cloning really is. There are two types of cloning: reproductive and stem cell cloning. Reproductive cloning basically means that it only takes one parent to reproduce. Stem cell cloning reproduces just an individual organ or part of an organism. Both types have major benefits for human health and well-being.
The most controversial issue in reproductive cloning is human duplication. This type would allow infertile women to have children much like in vitro fertilization. The embryo is injected with the individual's genetic code instead of with sperm. It is then implanted into the womb where it grows like a normal baby. Although the debate on the morality of cloning humans continues, there have been successful reproductions of livestock. This technology could be used to produce a better and more abundant source of food, by eliminating common diseases and building a meatier animal. Plants already reproduce this way.
Stem cell cloning can help people who have defective organs, but are on a long waiting list. This type produces an organ using genetic data collected from an embryo. The cells are shocked so they divide and produce the desired organ. The organ produced can be customized for the individual that needs it.
