Hiring the Right Person for the Job

             The article I read was on hiring the right people based on the attitude and passion behind their work rather than hiring off peoples skills alone. The article was very interesting because when you think about it most companies do hire who has the most skill or experience and believe that the person's attitude will adapt to the work environment they'll be switching to. But like this article said what people know is less important than who they are, that a company has to hire someone in the right mindset to get out of them top performance. "That people who are uncomfortable in their working environment tend to not succeed- no matter how technically capable they are" (page-1). This all made good sense to me when I thought about it but I do believe that most companies although consider a persons attitude look a lot more heavily at will they know what we need them to know right off hand, and sometimes I don't think that's all there is to it.
             This article went on and explained to managers or those doing the hiring that there are four principles that define smart hiring. The first being, What you know changes, Who you are doesn't. There have been researches done on personality types that show basic personality traits do not change but essentially remain constant throughout your life. Second principle was, you can't find what you're not looking for. Meaning to find those who will do outstanding work in your company's environment you need to look at the characteristics you're already thriving employees have and hire others like them. "Behavior predicts behavior(page-2), so understanding already outstanding performers and their attitudes and behaviors will help you to hire others with the same motivation. Third principle was, the best way to evaluate people is to watch them work.
