Terrorism

             Unfortunately, terrorism has affected the lives of many individuals. Whether terrorism has taken place through car bombings, church bombings, plane hijacking, or brutal attacks of any sort, they are still incidents that leave many questioning why such acts had to take place. First, it is important to understand how terrorism is defined and why these acts mentioned above are considered terrorist attacks. Terrorism can possess a few different definitions. Terrorism is defined as unlawful use of force or violence by revolutionary organization, the intention of coercion or intimidation of governments for political or ideological purposes, and premeditated political violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by sub-national state agents.
             Mary Ann Weaver's Blowback illustrates the terrorist attacks in Saudi Arabia. Terrorism organizations are not affiliated or part of Government. By this definition, jihad in Afghanistan and Al Qaida are considered terrorism organizations. Weaver explains the car bombings that took place in Peshawar, outside the Ridyadh headquarters, and outside the Egyptian embassy. Weaver states that these attacks resulting in the killing of 60 people and injuring over 120 were aimed at the Saudi dynasty and the United States. Not only were the jihad in Afghanistan terrorist, but Weaver goes on to explain that the United States are were just as guilty for being terrorist by having the CIA help train and fund an international network of highly disciplined and effective Islamic militants (Weaver, 29).
             A U.S. Diplomat specializing in Saudi Arabia informed Weaver that not only are these brutal attacks acts of terrorism, but acts of terrorism that have changed since the Cold War. People tend to be eager to become involved in new style groups, low-tech groups that many have not heard of before.
