Turkey Stearns and The Detroit Stars

After reading the book Turkey Sterns and the Detroit Stars I realized that the book didn't just talk about the Negro League of Baseball, but yet a wide range of subjects. The author of the book, Richard Bak touched on subjects such as segregation, the history of blackball, Black baseball heros, as well as racism that occurred. With a wide range of subjects that were thouched upon by the author it was hard to figure out just what his thesis was within this book, if he even had one. I do however believe that if he were to have a thesis or a main subject it would be the fact that blackball players were no less skilled than the whiteball players that were in the majors, but their chance to make it there would not be a easy one. Richard Bak stated that "Throughout the U.S, Canada, Mexico, and the Carribean. Some researches estimate that he (Satchel Paige) 2500 games. He won 2000 of them including about 100 no-hitters." These are just a few of the statistics that were presented within the book to show that blacks were not only good enough to enter the majors at the time, but also that...
