children and he starts to leave various items in tree as a sign that he wants to be their friend. He leaves items such as chewing gum, a broken pocket watch and even two soap dolls that resembled Scout and Jem. Jem and Scout admire these items as Jem puts all the items into a special box. By the time that Mr Radley seals up the tree, the kids soon figure out that the person leaving the stuff is Boo Radley. In addition, Boo Radley serves a guardian angel that is always trying to protect Scout and Jem. The first instance of this is when Jem ripped his pants on the Radley fence. Jem retells Scout that when he came back, someone had folded his pants and have sewn his pants to cover the tear he made. Later on in the novel, he then saves the children from the attack from Bob Ewell. By looking over the children and protecting them, he was able to come to the aid of Jem and Scout when they needed it most and was able to save their lives.
             Besides being a guardian for Scout and Jem, Boo Radley is also a symbol in this story. Boo Radley represents a mockingbird. "It's a sin to kill a mockingbird ... mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy." In other words, mockingbirds don't make our world a horrible place to live in but mockingbirds are innocent creatures only providing beauty and to kill a creature that provides beauty would be a sin.
