In Bethnal Green, the community shared a long history through their predecessors and as such, neighbours had been linked as being more than just proximally and emotionally close neighbours, but were in fact close friends for many years. Greenleigh was, however, different. Since Greenleigh was a new development, it did not have the same history and the people came from different communities with different histories and different interests. As such, they were very different communities to start with.
             An interesting point that Young and Wilmott discussed was that all the residents' complaints about their neighbours shared the attitude they complained of. I found that their idea of being 'just neighbourly' was in my mind being a very good neighbour! Richard's also had the same feeling. She too noticed that at the new estate on the outer fringes of Melbourne, there was actually "a great deal of neighbouring" and that 'neighbourly things' were often defined as 'little things' by the residents.
