             Before venturing into creating TK, David O'Russell had directed only two films, and only one of any significance . It was surprising therefore that he managed to get support from a major studio, especially Warner Brothers. From an economic point of view, it was a surprise that Warner Brother's decided that this was a profitable picture. They gave the film a fairly large budget, which in essence was an anti-war movie, which didn't paint a good picture of the American government or army, and putting it into the hands of a new, unknown director. The basis that Warner Brothers confirmed their interest was shaky as can be seen, which is unusual for the major studios, giving the director enough money to create a big budget movie, ending up in the region of $40 million. This gave the director the ability to utilize all manner of special effects and the ability to employ a range of actors from George Clooney to the part music video director, part film director, part actor Spike Jonze.

             In Hollywood it is the practice of the studios that if they are making a challenging or controversial film that the components and staff need to be straight from the A class list of actors/directors. Philadelphia, a controversial film of its time had one of the top directors, in Academy award winner Jonathan Demm, with two of the biggest actors of their generation Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington. Also more recently Erin Brockovich teamed director Steven Sonenberg with the ever popular Julia Roberts.
