This ruling was made by the executive committee based on the fact that Mr. Lamaze did admit to cocaine use which is a breach of the agreement all members of the Canadian Olympic team sign (CBS Sports 2000). It was therefore necessary "to protect the integrity of sport and of the agreement" in preventing Mr. Lamaze from participating in the Olympic Games (CBS Sports 2000). But if the prevailing circumstances for the drug use allow for him to be re-instated into the Canadian amateur sports system, why is he being prevented from competing in the most important competition? Mr. Lamaze's case poses a very difficult question to the Canadian Olympic Association and must be evaluated further based on the moral and ethical issues effecting the final decision.
             This case is therefore one of a great moral dilemma. Mr. Lamaze of course broke the rules and the contract he signed signaling that punishment is necessary. But there were reasons for his drug use and for his breaking the contract,
