There was great famine in the country, and it was not getting better. Yunus knew he needed to do more to help the people. He and the other teachers signed a declaration to end the famine and delivered their decision to the press. This started a chain reaction, and the country began to rally to work together on this problem. It was essential to increase food production. They started the Chittagong University Rural Development Project. In addition, they formed a new type of agricultural cooperative called the Nabajug (New Era) Three Share Farm.
