             Most states have implemented their standards through the use of standardized tests that are given in grades 3, 6, 8, and 10. The tests are designed to evaluate the state standards that are required for the respective grades. In Indiana, the 10th grade students take a Graduation Qualifying Exam (GQE). Indiana high school students are required to pass the GQE test in order to graduate; although exceptions to this requirement do offer other avenues for students to succeed. The GQE test measures a student's aptitude in the subjects of math and English. Each student is allowed three opportunities to pass the GQE throughout his or her high school career. The GQE test is offered during the sophomore, junior, and senior years. The state of Indiana has set a goal of having 100% of its high school students passing by their senior year.
